Do I Have a Passion for Investing?

A question I often get asked is: Do you have a passion for investments?

For the past year, I haven’t been able to answer that. Maybe I’ve been waiting for a lightbulb moment—that moment when everything clicks, and I just know. But… that hasn’t happened yet.

I’ve met people in this industry whose passion is undeniable. Investing is in their blood. I once listened to an analyst explain the P/E ratio with such enthusiasm and clarity, it was like second nature to him.

So, how do you know if you have passion? Do you just feel it? Do others tell you? Or does your work speak for itself?

I’m reminded of a quote from Ryan Holiday’s Ego is the Enemy:

"Passion is form over function. Purpose is function, function, function."

His take on passion is fascinating—removing the emotion of what you want to be and instead focusing on what needs to be done. Just doing the work.

That resonated with me. I may not know exactly how I feel about what I do. But what I can do is find a purpose and stay focused.

Maybe the real question isn’t about passion. Maybe it’s: What is an actionable purpose I can commit to?

Well if that makes sense.

More on this to come!
